How a video or virtual tour can replace open school doors

Prospective students appreciate the possibility to visit a school or university virtually.

The pandemic we are currently experiencing is affecting everyone. Meetings and gatherings are becoming increasingly rare because of the measures imposed by the Swiss Confederation, as well as everyone's fears. Schools and universities must teach their courses online, and this period of lockdown does not help prospective students choose their path. Schools need to find new ways to motivate potential students and inform them about their offer.

Normally, schools and universities organize open house days, in order to meet future students, to present them the courses they offer as well as the premises in which they will be hosted afterwards. Unfortunately, these practices have been discontinued and it is difficult to know until when. However, that does not mean that there are no workarounds. Video is one of them.

Recently, we collaborated with the International University of Geneva on the production of a video presentation of their university, as well as a virtual tour of their premises.

Virtual tour production is one of the service that we offer at SmartCuts. It consists of photographing a space in 360° and allows the viewer to then move virtually in the space and to view it in all its aspects. Prospective students can virtually enter the premises and walk around as they wish. They can also click on pictures on the walls to view them in full screen. This easily replaces a real visit and allows future students to make the visit when it suits them best. The limitation is that it does not answer potential questions from students and does not present the specificities and strengths of the university.

For that, IUG asked us to make a video presentation of the campus, in which two students roll played presenters. One played the role of the student and one that of the prospective student. By working the script beforehand with the client, we made sure we covered all the topics that might be of interest to future students.

But then, how do you draw attention to those videos? These presentation videos will likely be hosted on a website. We recorded a virtual tour, sped it up, and picked the best parts. With rhythmic and catchy music, it is a perfect teaser to post on Instagram in order to incite future students to visit the website and learn more about their training.tend to wait for information to come to them, and often find answers before they even seek them out. This is why it is important to increase your presence online, for example through a newsletter and through social networking.

Publish your videos on Instagram and Facebook. This is what we did for IUG, making a teaser of their virtual tour. We recorded a virtual tour, sped it up, and picked the best parts.
